Days Gone Remastered was a highlight at Sony’s recent State of Play event, yet it has stirred frustration among some PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the discounted upgrade to the PS5 remastered version is exclusively for those who possess a PlayStation 4 disc or digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through PS Plus, including those who redeemed it during its availability in the PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are ineligible for the $10 upgrade and must purchase the PS5 remaster at the full price of $49.99.
This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums to voice their grievances. On the PlayStation Plus subreddit, for instance, numerous subscribers expressed their willingness to pay $10 for the upgrade but are now considering bypassing the remastered version entirely due to the full price requirement.
For example, user squarejellyfish_ noted, "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two." Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, "They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got."
Dredizzle99 echoed these sentiments, saying, "There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them." Jackanyon95 added, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."

Despite the backlash, some subscribers aren't entirely shocked by Sony's decision, recognizing that the company likely made this choice after careful financial analysis. Nonetheless, Sony is facing criticism from dedicated fans who perceive this move as "stingy," hoping for more generosity from PlayStation.
