Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather limited—Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, Hit Monkey, and that's pretty much it. But that changes with the Brave New World season! Falcon's trusty sidekick, Redwing, takes flight and joins the feathered (and furry) fray.
How Redwing Works in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: "The first time this moves, add a card from your hand to the old location." However, there are a few key limitations. Redwing's ability is a one-time trigger. Attempts to reactivate it using cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or by returning it to your hand won't work, significantly restricting its strategic use.
Precisely targeting a card with Redwing also proves challenging. Move decks often feature low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that you wouldn't want to inadvertently trigger. Conversely, Scream decks typically manipulate your opponent's cards rather than your own.
Despite these limitations, there are affordable ways to move Redwing, such as using Madame Web or Cloak (ideal for players with lower Collection Levels). The potential for surprising victories exists—imagine strategically deploying a Galactus early or pulling a powerful card like The Infinaut.
Best Day One Redwing Decks in Marvel Snap
Ares and Surtur dominated the previous season, and they're back with a revamped Scream-based deck. This build incorporates cards like Aero to boost power and Heimdall to disrupt opponents. Redwing surprisingly fits into this strategy, although playing Surtur on turn 3 remains the priority in almost all scenarios. Here's the decklist:
Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto [Click here to copy this list from Untapped.]
This deck is expensive, featuring several Series 5 cards: Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian. Hydra Bob can be substituted with a different 1-cost card (Rocket Raccoon or Iceman are viable options), but the other Series 5 cards are crucial.
The strategy centers on playing Surtur on turn 3, followed by high-power cards to amplify Surtur's power. Scream provides an alternative win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto offer "push" capabilities, while Redwing can be moved into Heimdall to buff Surtur and draw a powerful card.
Another potential home for Redwing is in a Madame Web deck, although Dagger's nerf has significantly reduced the viability of move-based strategies. This deck focuses on Ongoing effects:
Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum [Click here to copy this list from Untapped.]
This deck includes two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. While Madame Web isn't strictly necessary, removing her necessitates removing Redwing as well.
This is essentially a Doom 2099 Ongoing deck. The goal is to deploy Doom 2099 early to distribute power across locations. Madame Web aids in positioning Doom 2099's bots, and also offers another way to move Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing provides an additional way to utilize Madame Web's ability. On turn 6, Doctor Doom or Spectrum are played to either spread power or create a powerful final push.
Is Redwing Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens?
Currently, no. Redwing feels significantly underpowered and fits into a weak archetype. It's advisable to save resources for stronger cards in upcoming releases. Unless Second Dinner significantly buffs Redwing, it's not a worthwhile investment.
