Resident Evil Creator Wants Cult Classic, Killer7, to Get a Sequel By Suda51

Resident Evil's mastermind, Shinji Mikami, recently expressed strong support for a Killer7 sequel during a presentation alongside the game's creator, Goichi "Suda51" Suda. This sparked considerable excitement among fans of the cult classic.

Killer7: A Sequel or a Complete Edition?

The Grasshopper Direct presentation, primarily focused on the Shadows of the Damned remaster, unexpectedly veered into a discussion about Killer7's future. Mikami openly stated his desire for a sequel, calling the original one of his personal favorites. Suda51, mirroring Mikami's enthusiasm, hinted at the possibility, playfully suggesting titles like "Killer11" or "Killer7: Beyond."

Killer7, a 2005 action-adventure title for GameCube and PlayStation 2, is renowned for its unique blend of horror, mystery, and Suda51's signature over-the-top style. The game follows Harman Smith, a man capable of manifesting seven distinct personalities, each with unique skills and weaponry. Despite its cult following, a sequel has remained elusive. Even after a 2018 PC remaster, Suda51 expressed interest in revisiting the original vision, suggesting a "Complete Edition" to incorporate cut content. Mikami, while playfully dismissing this as "lame," acknowledged the potential for expanding the game, particularly by restoring extensive dialogue for the character Coyote.

The possibility of both a sequel and a complete edition has generated significant fan excitement. While no firm commitments have been made, the developers' enthusiasm alone fuels speculation about Killer7's future. The ultimate decision, as Suda51 stated, rests on whether "Killer7: Beyond" or the Complete Edition will take precedence.
