Robert Eggers, renowned for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to expand his repertoire with a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will take on the roles of writer and director for this follow-up to Jim Henson’s 1986 dark fantasy masterpiece, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Eggers will co-write the script with Sjón, his collaborator from The Northman. Previously, a sequel was in development with Sinister director Scott Derrickson, but with no updates since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers at the helm.
Originally released in 1986, *Labyrinth* featured David Bowie as the enigmatic Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Jennifer Connelly’s baby brother. Connelly's character embarks on a thrilling journey through a dark fantasy realm to rescue her sibling, aided by a colorful ensemble of Henson’s iconic puppets.Beyond the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also set to direct a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English, and as one might expect, it will involve a transformation into a wolf-like creature.
Eggers’ latest release, Nosferatu, which hit theaters last Christmas, is a reimagining of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau. Set in 19th century Germany, it follows a young real estate agent tasked with selling a castle to a mysterious count in Transylvania, only to unleash a cascade of vampiric horrors on himself and his wife Ellen.
