Valve's recent SteamOS 3.6.9 Beta update, nicknamed "Megafixer," introduces key support for the ASUS ROG Ally, marking a significant step towards broader third-party device compatibility. This update, currently available on Steam Deck Beta and Preview channels, includes numerous fixes and improvements but notably extends support to the ROG Ally's physical controls.
This represents a departure from previous SteamOS exclusivity, aligning with Valve's long-stated goal of expanding SteamOS beyond the Steam Deck. Valve designer Lawrence Yang confirmed this direction, highlighting ongoing efforts to support additional handheld devices.
While ASUS hasn't officially endorsed SteamOS for the ROG Ally, and full SteamOS functionality on non-Steam Deck hardware isn't yet realized, this update signifies substantial progress.
