The previous generation, the Sony XM4, was already an exceptional headphone, but the XM5 introduces crucial enhancements in noise cancellation and comfort. It features a second processor and double the number of microphones dedicated to filtering out ambient noise. The redesigned earcups fit more snugly on the ears, enhancing passive noise isolation. The noise-canceling performance is markedly superior to that of the XM4 and nearly any other noise-canceling headset in its price range.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 also boasts a sleeker redesign with an updated headband adjustment mechanism. The band is now wider for better weight distribution, and the earcup padding is made of a luxurious synthetic leather that's softer and more comfortable, allowing for hours of wear.
