In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas. Here's a detailed guide to help you navigate the quest and make informed decisions about whether to side with Semine or Hashek.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can start "Necessary Evil." Von Bergow will task Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome is crucial as it will decide whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough focuses on choosing Semine, where the most difficult decisions arise.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the interrogation, you'll need to pass Speech checks. You can either use intimidation or resort to torture to extract information. Here are the Speech check requirements:
- "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
- "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
- "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)
After the interrogation, you'll uncover the bandit leader's identity and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either reveal Young Semine's collusion with the bandits, leading to an attack on the town, or claim no local assistance was given to the bandits, resulting in an attack on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party and facing more complex decisions regarding Hashek. Opting for Nebakov means von Bergow will handle the bandits there, concluding the quest immediately.
Attacking Nebakov might be preferable if you wish to avoid bloodshed at Semine. However, morally, letting Semine escape consequences for actions that led to many deaths is questionable. Personally, I chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the right course despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party to prevent the town's slaughter. Accompanying them gives you a chance to aid Semine.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before setting out, you can talk to Hashek, who clearly seeks revenge on Semine and favors a violent approach.
Upon arrival, you must choose between siding with Semine or Hashek. To support Hashek, select the dialogue option "Hashek is right." To side with Semine, choose "Olda deserves a trial."
I recommend siding with Semine. Although Semine erred by aiding the bandits, Hashek's desire for total destruction would lead to more innocent deaths. Playing Henry as a morally upright character, it made sense to oppose Hashek.
After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, advancing the quest to your next objective of reporting to von Bergow.
Siding with Hashek results in the town's annihilation. You can also find Olda in the tower and decide his fate—whether to spare him or hand him over to Hashek.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
The quest concludes with Henry and Hans reporting to von Bergow. You can either remain silent, letting Hans handle the diplomacy, or speak up about the events at Semine.
I suggest staying silent and allowing Hans to talk. Hans excels at diplomacy, keeping both men in von Bergow's favor. This leads to von Bergow planning his next move against Nebakov.
