Square Enix has put any lingering doubts to rest with a clear and enthusiastic confirmation on social media that Kingdom Hearts 4 is very much in development. This announcement came hot on the heels of the cancellation news for Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, their GPS-based action-RPG for mobile, but they seized the moment to reassure fans that the team is "hard at work" on the highly anticipated sequel.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the developer stated in their first of two posts. Accompanying this message was a vibrant collage of screenshots, offering fans a glimpse into the world of Kingdom Hearts 4. The images not only introduce some of the characters players can look forward to encountering but also tease cinematic scenes, thrilling combat sequences, intricate platforming, and encounters with massive foes.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," Square Enix expressed in their second post. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first substantial news on the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a small, enigmatic hint about Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite an initial reveal in September 2022, complete with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained tight-lipped until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has previously indicated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, start to bring the Kingdom Hearts narrative closer to its conclusion.
Regarding the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel was made because "it was determined that it would be difficult to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
