The Star Wars universe after The Rise of Skywalker is finally coming into focus—though Shawn Levy's project isn't the first to explore this era. While anticipation builds for Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter, fans will soon dive deeper into the post-Episode IX timeline through the upcoming YA novel Star Wars: The Last Order.
Revealed via Penguin Random House's website, the novel will expand the stories of Finn (John Boyega) and Resistance fighter Jannah (Naomi Ackie), characters introduced in The Rise of Skywalker. Author Kwame Mbalia's story follows:
"After rescuing children kidnapped by the First Order, Finn and Jannah hunt down the officer responsible while confronting their own pasts as former stormtroopers of the fallen regime."
This novel represents the first canonical exploration beyond Episode IX, though Levy's film remains in development. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed in February that Shawn Levy's standalone film would take place several years after the Skywalker saga.
Screenwriter Jonathan Tropper recently expressed excitement about the project, teasing an earlier-than-expected release. Shortly after, Star Wars Celebration Japan announced Ryan Gosling's casting alongside a May 28, 2027 release date.
