Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's first venture into the Star Wars franchise, is set to close its doors just over a year after its initial launch on iOS and Android. The game made its debut in June 2024 and quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show flair and fresh interpretations of Star Wars archetypes.
It has now been confirmed that Star Wars: Hunters will shut down on October 1st of this year. A final content update is scheduled for April 15th. As part of the wind-down process, players can now request refunds for any in-game currency they have purchased. Additionally, the game's third season will be extended, and certain seasonal events will be rerun.
Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of the final hunter, Tuya, will still have the chance to enjoy this character in multiplayer. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to play for free from the outset.
The announcement of the game's closure came as a surprise, as there had been no prior indications that Star Wars: Hunters was underperforming. Given Zynga's robust position in the industry, the decision to discontinue the game suggests deeper underlying issues. One possible reason could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, coupled with a shifting demographic of Star Wars fans who may not be as interested in high-octane mobile multiplayer experiences.
