World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The World of Warcraft (WoW) Feast of Winter Veil, WoW's take on Christmas, returns annually with unique rewards and festive additions. A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.
This captivating video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the modern commercialization of Winter Veil by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures, mirroring real-world Christmas traditions.
A History Steeped in Lore:
No Winter Veil lore video would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Blizzard executive Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of kidnappings—three to be exact—by pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves (in Classic WoW), and even the Grinch in the current iteration of the game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen, with Metzen the Reindeer expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (Thrall's voice actor is also Chris Metzen).
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous videos covered topics like Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. Blizzard's recent collaborations with content creators like PlatinumWoW, Taliesin & Evitel, and Hurricane demonstrate a commitment to enriching the WoW experience.
