According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was abandoned this week due to concerns over the content's value not justifying the intended price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment when approached by Bloomberg.
This decision comes amidst a period of restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the developer, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. conducted layoffs at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy specifically. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to the game is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus to fewer, but larger, franchises. This is not surprising, given that the original game has achieved remarkable sales, exceeding 30 million copies sold.
