F.H. Disillusion: The Library

The air inside the Forgotten Hill Museum is thick with dust and silence—so thick it feels like it’s pressing against your eardrums. The doors have already closed behind you. No handle. No keyhole. Just an ancient, weathered sign carved into the oak:

“Welcome, Seeker. The Truth is Not What You Think. Begin.”

You stand at the edge of a vast, forgotten library. Towering shelves spiral upward into darkness, their spines cracked and glowing faintly in hues of amber and violet. Books float mid-air, bound not by string, but by thin, silver threads that pulse like veins. A single candle flickers on a desk carved from what looks like bone—except it breathes.

From somewhere deep in the shadows, a voice, dry as parchment and warm as a memory, murmurs:

“Ah. You’ve arrived. I’ve been waiting. They said you wouldn’t last past the first riddle.”

A man steps forward—Mr. Larson, silver-haired, eyes too knowing, wearing a waistcoat stitched from pages of old newspapers. In his hand, a bottle of wine with no label. The cork is already out. The wine inside… isn’t red.

It glows.

“They said you’d look at it and run,” he says, not looking at you. “But you’re not like the others. I can feel it. You’re not afraid of truth. You’re afraid of lies.”

He holds the bottle toward you.

“Uncork it. Not with your hands. With your mind.”

The air grows colder.

The shelves shift.

A book opens on its own. The pages scream—but no sound comes out.

And somewhere, deep beneath the floor, something wakes.

What do you do?

• Reach into your memory—focus on a forgotten dream, a childhood lie, a secret you never told—and think the cork free.
• Examine the bottle’s base—a tiny engraving reads: "Only the honest liar may drink." Is there a trick in the words?
• Ask Mr. Larson a question—what does he mean by "honest liar"? And why does his reflection not move with him?
• Ignore the bottle. Turn toward the far end of the library, where a single book lies open on a pedestal: The First Lie Ever Told.

The truth isn’t found. It’s chosen.
And once chosen… you can never unsee it.
