EA Currently Not Interested In Dead Space
Developers Still Hope For New Entry In The Future
The future of Dead Space 4 hangs in uncertainty, as Glen Schofield, the creator of the series, disclosed that EA has rejected their proposal for the next chapter in this acclaimed franchise. During an online interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Schofield, along with fellow developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed that EA turned down their pitch for Dead Space 4.
The discussion began when Stone mentioned that his son, after playing Dead Space, enthusiastically pleaded for a new installment. Stone humorously responded, "I wish," reflecting the team's disappointment. The trio revealed that they pitched the idea to EA earlier this year, but the response was swift and clear. Schofield recounted, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." He added, "And we respected their opinion—they know their numbers and what they have to ship." Stone noted the current hesitation in the gaming industry to take risks, especially with franchises that are a decade old.
Despite the success of last year's Dead Space remake, which received an impressive 89 on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam, it seems that EA is cautious about investing in a new title for an older IP. Schofield emphasized EA's data-driven approach, stating, "They know their numbers and what they have to ship."
Despite this setback, the developers remain hopeful about the future of Dead Space 4. Stone expressed optimism, saying, "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," with Schofield and Robbins nodding in agreement. Although they are no longer working together at the same studio and are each engaged in their own projects, their enthusiasm for a new Dead Space game remains strong. They have ideas ready and would jump at the chance to bring the series back to life.
