Nvidia Calls Switch 2 Iwata's Vision with Top Portable Graphics

Author : Natalie Update:Dec 16,2025

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has applauded the Nintendo Switch 2, stating the upcoming console fulfills the dream of late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who conceptualized the original Switch before passing in 2015.

In a Nintendo-produced Creator's Voice video, Huang revealed his personal collaboration with Iwata on Nintendo's ambitious hybrid console plans - a device delivering home console gaming experiences on-the-go.

After co-developing Switch 2's chipset with Nintendo, Huang praised the console for delivering "the most sophisticated mobile graphics to date" while honoring "Iwata-san's original vision with a worthy new chapter."

"For over ten years, Nvidia and Nintendo have shared a core philosophy - that technology must empower creativity, and joy deserves engineering excellence," Huang reflected.

"Iwata-san once shared his impossible dream with me - a console packing big-screen gaming power into pocket-sized mobility. Against all odds, that vision materialized as the Nintendo Switch."

"Though we lost Iwata-san before launch, his visionary clarity continues guiding us daily," Huang continued. "The original Switch demanded over 500 engineer-years from Nvidia, requiring complete reinvention of chip architecture, operating systems, APIs and engines to make that magic portable. The results? An undeniable success with 150+ million units sold."

Huang emphasized Switch 2's technological leap - introducing ray tracing and HDR capabilities while maintaining backward compatibility, all packaged in what he called "the most graphically advanced portable gaming hardware" ever created.

"Switch 2 transcends being just another console," Huang concluded. "It's the worthy evolution of Iwata-san's legacy. To our Nintendo partners - congratulations. We're privileged to continue this journey with you."

The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches Thursday, June 5, with analysts predicting immediate sellouts. Retailers have reportedly begun receiving 'Out of Stock' signage preemptively due to overwhelming demand.

IGN's hands-on impressions reveal Mario Kart World's open-world differs from expectations - not the Forza Horizon-style experience some anticipated. Their review of the $10 Switch 2 Welcome Tour mini-game collection notes its enjoyment factor, while questioning its price point for what feels like a free pack-in title.
