PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming Beta with Gameplay Capture

Sony is rolling out an exciting new update for PlayStation Portal users engaged in its Cloud Streaming Beta, introducing several enhancements to the remote play system's cloud capabilities today. This update promises to refine user experience and functionality, making cloud streaming even more enjoyable for PlayStation Plus Premium members.

A significant feature of this update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or based on which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, simplifying the process of finding the perfect game to play.

Another major addition is the ability to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Users can access the familiar create menu to take screenshots or record video clips. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be captured in resolutions up to 1920x1080 and have a maximum duration of three minutes, giving players ample opportunity to showcase their best moments.

Gameplay will now pause under certain conditions: when the PS Portal quick menu is opened, when entering rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, note that if the Portal remains in rest mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. Additionally, pausing is not supported in online multiplayer scenarios.

Other updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and tools for user feedback. Sony has committed to continuously enhancing the service based on user input.

The Cloud Streaming Beta remains exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to enjoy select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog through cloud streaming on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and it seems Sony is dedicated to further refining this feature.
