Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. The new trailer reflects on the studio's journey, showcasing the evolution from the bleak realities of This War of Mine to the more vibrant, albeit still challenging, world of The Alters.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim depiction of wartime survival, The Alters embraces a more dynamic and often humorous narrative, focusing on the struggles of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite their contrasting tones, both games share a core thematic element: survival.
In This War of Mine, players grapple with the harsh realities of a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and enduring daily hardships to keep their civilian group alive. The Alters, however, presents survival as a frantic race against a relentless, dust-inducing sun, demanding constant relocation of the player's mobile base.
Both games challenge players to confront uncomfortable situations, venturing into hostile territories to secure essential resources. The key distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine guides players through the experiences of a group of ordinary civilians, while The Alters introduces a unique team of the main character's alternate selves.
The Alters is slated for a 2025 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
