I'm generally practical with my money. I buy necessities and the occasional discounted video game, but rarely anything beyond that. It wasn't until last year that I even considered a LEGO set, despite enjoying them as a child. The cost is a significant factor; while some sets are affordable, licensed ones are often pricey. This explains why it took me so long to purchase the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. It's been on sale for under $50 since October, but I only recently decided my desk needed a new, rather unusual, potted plant.

This 540-piece set allows for pose adjustments. It's available for $47.95 at Amazon and $47.99 at Walmart (both offering a 20% discount).
I initially considered this set after seeing IGN's build. As a longtime Mario fan, it seemed the perfect way to showcase my love for the franchise. LEGO's botanical line offers attractive flower sets, but none are as delightfully terrifying as this little guy.

Having built it, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It evokes the Mushroom Kingdom, a fun addition to my workspace. I enjoyed the building process; it was engaging but completed within an afternoon. This is my first Nintendo LEGO set, but the experience has me considering more.

LEGO sets, especially adult-oriented ones, can be expensive, with some exceeding $200. Finding a balance between indulgence and financial responsibility is key. The sub-$50 price of the Mario set made it a worthwhile purchase for me. The hours spent building it and the daily happiness it brings justify the cost, at least for me.
