Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released
A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the problem with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. These updates, available through Steam, resolve launch and functionality problems experienced by players after installing the Windows update. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of storage, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.
However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey. While previous hotfixes addressed similar problems in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Odyssey players may experience continued instability or complete game failure. Ubisoft is yet to release a patch for Odyssey, advising affected players to postpone the Windows 11 24H2 update until a fix is available.
The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While the 24H2 update boasts features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, its impact on certain games highlights a need for more rigorous compatibility testing before widespread rollout. Reports of issues surfaced months before the official release, suggesting a missed opportunity for preemptive problem-solving. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. The majority of games appear unaffected, but the experience with Assassin's Creed underscores the potential for unforeseen complications.
