The Chinese Room studio has released an exciting new development diary for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, showcasing fresh gameplay footage. In this latest update, the developers delve into the mechanics of how players will navigate the perilous act of hunting as a vampire within the game's world.
In the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, maintaining the Masquerade is paramount. Vampires must conceal their true nature from unsuspecting mortals. This crucial aspect is represented in Bloodlines 2 by a Masquerade meter, which tracks actions that risk exposing the vampire community.
If a player breaches the Masquerade, they'll see three levels of severity indicated by an eye icon at the top of the screen:
- Green: Represents a minor violation. Simply hiding is sufficient to avoid consequences.
- Yellow: Indicates multiple infractions, feeding, or using aggressive powers. At this stage, players must deal with witnesses or avoid drawing excessive police attention.
- Red: Signals a severe breach of the Masquerade, with the police actively pursuing the player. The best strategy here is to flee and hide, as the Camarilla will intervene once the meter is fully compromised, as demonstrated in the gameplay clip.
To mitigate their "infamy," players can choose to manipulate witnesses into forgetting what they've seen or, more drastically, eliminate them. If law enforcement gets involved, the safest approach is to hide until the situation cools down.
The developers have assured that the threat of revealing the vampire existence will escalate as players progress through the game. To successfully uphold the Masquerade, players must act swiftly and decisively, ensuring their actions remain shrouded in secrecy.
