Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in New Video Celebrating 10M RE4 Players

Author : Mia Update:Jun 20,2025

Capcom has subtly hinted at Resident Evil 9 in a celebratory video released today, April 25, 2025.

To commemorate Resident Evil 4 reaching an impressive milestone of 10 million players, the development team shared a unique thank-you video on social media. The clip features Ada Wong engaged in a hushed conversation with one of gaming’s most recognizable antagonists. The scene then shifts to Leon, surrounded by a group of party-hatted infected enemies heading toward the church.

The video transitions into a quirky rock sequence, showcasing Dr. Salvador treating his chainsaw like a guitar — and yes, it's as wild as it sounds. As the camera pans back, Leon is seen enthusiastically pumping his fist into the air. Behind him stands a rustic wooden sign that reads “Thank you for playing.”

However, things get even more intriguing when you rotate that sign sideways. The way the planks are arranged forms the Roman numeral "IX" — unmistakably signaling the number 9.

While this could be interpreted as a coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem notes that the lower plank seen in the final scene isn’t visible earlier in the video, suggesting it was added intentionally. Whether or not this is a direct nod to Resident Evil 9, only time will tell.

One curious observer commented, “I know what you did here,” along with a wide-eyed emoji.

PlayIn related news, Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline installment in the *Resident Evil* series will be led by Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind *Resident Evil 7*.

Nakanishi reflected on the creative challenge: “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can.” Rumors suggest — and many believe it to be confirmed — that the upcoming title will take place on an island inspired by Singapore.
