Following the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, several key figures from CD Projekt RED departed to pursue independent ventures. One such project, The Blood of Dawnwalker, emerges from Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a CD Projekt RED veteran.
Rebel Wolves recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker. Studio head Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz detailed his reasons for leaving CDPR:
The core motivation was a desire to collaborate with friends on innovative projects, leading to the formation of Rebel Wolves. We share a deep passion for RPGs and their history, but believe the genre's conventions can be significantly expanded upon. We conceived some truly groundbreaking concepts, but realized that convincing a large corporation to embrace such radical changes, especially with new intellectual property, would be extremely challenging. Therefore, establishing our own studio became the necessary path to realizing our ambitious vision. This approach carries inherent risks, unlike the more established processes within larger studios.
Rebel Wolves prioritizes strong interpersonal relationships and open communication within its small team. This fosters a collaborative environment where shared vision is easily discussed and implemented. This close-knit structure facilitates creative freedom and the development of truly unique game mechanics.
