The developers of Civilization 7 have hinted at the potential return of Gandhi, but as a downloadable content (DLC) rather than part of the initial roster. Dive deeper to understand why Firaxis Games chose to exclude Gandhi from the game's launch lineup.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Their Leaders
There Is Still Hope for Gandhi and Other Civilization Leaders
Fans of Civilization 7 have reason to remain hopeful about Gandhi's return as a leader, following an insightful interview with lead designer Ed Beach on IGN, dated February 13, 2025. Beach suggested that while Gandhi may not be immediately available, there's a possibility of his inclusion in future DLCs.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the absence of certain civilizations and leaders in Civ 7. "We haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach remarked. "There's a lot of discussion right now about where Great Britain or England are, and why they aren't in our game."
The decision to omit Britain and India from the initial lineup of Civ 7 was strategic. "There are simply too many popular choices, and we always want to introduce a few fresh and exciting options for our players," Beach explained. "So, some civilizations are left out initially, but we always consider the broader picture for when to bring leaders or civilizations back into the fold. So, there's still hope for Gandhi."
Given the extensive history of DLC releases in Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi could eventually find his way into Civilization 7. However, the precise timeline for his return remains uncertain.
