Sandfall Interactive recently unveiled crucial details about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 during Xbox's Developer Direct, including the release date, character roster expansion, and innovative combat mechanics. Let's delve into the exciting news!
Unveiling the Mystery: April 24, 2025 Launch

Inspired by Belle Epoque France, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will launch on April 24, 2025. This announcement, made during the Xbox Developer Direct, confirms the game's arrival on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Pre-orders are open! Secure your copy on the Xbox Store ($44.99 standard, $59.99 Deluxe) or take advantage of a 10% discount on Steam and PS5 ($44.99/$53.99 respectively). Note that the PS5 discount requires a PlayStation Plus subscription and is valid until the game's release. Steam's discount ends May 2nd, 2025. The game is currently wishlisted on the Epic Games Store.
Meet the New Recruits: Monoco and Esquie

The Expedition 33 team expands! Joining the previously announced Gustave, Lune, Maelle, Sciel, Renoir, and Verso (revealed October 16, 2024, on YouTube) are two new characters: Monoco and Esquie.
Monoco, a Gestral, is a combat-loving being capable of transforming into defeated enemies, adding a unique tactical dimension. Gestrals are notably immune to the Paintress's power.

Esquie, an ancient and powerful being, focuses on exploration. He grants access to various locations across the open world map, with his special stones unlocking new abilities and areas.
Revolutionizing Turn-Based Combat

Sandfall Interactive's goal was to create more than just a visually stunning game. As stated by CEO Guillaume Broche (Xbox Wire, January 23, 2025), they've reinvented classic turn-based combat. A reactive system introduces real-time elements, allowing players to parry and dodge for increased damage or defense. The difficulty adjusts the timing window for these actions, catering to various skill levels.

Deep Character Customization: Each character boasts unique mechanics and skill trees. Lune, for example, utilizes "Stain" to enhance her abilities. "Pictos," equipment modifiers, evolve into permanent Luminas (passive effects) after four battles, offering extensive customization options. This allows for hundreds of build variations.
Prepare for a strategic and reflex-testing adventure in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33!
