A free demo for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's spin-off, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, launches today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
RGG Studio made the announcement on X/Twitter, stating the demo will be available for download at 7 am Pacific / 10 am Eastern / 3 pm UK time. The full game releases February 21st, also on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but these platforms will not receive the demo.
While RGG Studio hasn't confirmed demo save transfer to the full game, the demo's content suggests this isn't possible. The demo allows players to bypass the early game, accessing freeroam areas and battles not initially available in the main story.
Specifically, the demo offers:
- Free exploration of Honolulu and Madlantis locations.
- Access to "Mad Dog" and "Sea Dog" fighting styles.
- Battles against powerful bounty enemies.
- Four ship and deck battles in the Pirates' Coliseum.
- New character customization features.
- Karaoke with three selectable songs.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a spin-off sequel to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the eighth mainline entry in the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series (ninth including Yakuza 0). It features Goro Majima, who wakes up amnesiac and becomes a pirate, adventuring across Hawaii.
An October Xbox Partner Showcase trailer showcased ship combat reminiscent of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and the return of Taiga Saejima, hinting at stronger ties to the main series than anticipated.
The game's playtime is estimated at 15-18 hours, significantly longer than Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Players can unlock a Kiryu Kazuma costume for Majima by subscribing to email notifications or a Sega rewards program.
