Denis Villeneuve to Direct Next James Bond Film

Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that Denis Villeneuve will helm the next installment of the James Bond film series.

"My earliest cinematic memories are tied to 007," Villeneuve stated in the official announcement. "I began watching Bond films with my father, starting with 'Dr. No' starring Sean Connery. As a lifelong fan, I consider this universe sacred. My goal is to respect its legacy while paving the way for future missions. This is a tremendous responsibility and a profound honor, one that I find incredibly exciting."

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, praised Villeneuve as "a master filmmaker whose body of work truly speaks for itself."

"Placing James Bond under the direction of one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers is a thrilling prospect. We are eager to embark on 007's next adventure," he added.

Villeneuve's acclaimed directing portfolio includes the Oscar-winning sci-fi epics 'Dune' and 'Dune: Part Two,' along with 'Blade Runner 2049' and 'Arrival.' His other notable films are 'Incendies' (2010), 'Prisoners' (2013), and 'Sicario' (2015).

Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios finalized an agreement with long-time franchise producers and co-owners Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, securing Amazon's creative oversight of the James Bond property moving forward.

The hunt for a director to take on the next Bond film has been underway for quite a while. Previous reports shortlisted names like Edward Berger, director of Netflix’s 'All Quiet on the Western Front' remake, and Kelly Marcel, director of 'Venom: The Last Dance.'

While the search for the next actor to portray Bond continues, one particular British star has clearly become a fan-favorite frontrunner. In the meantime, Villeneuve has one final 'Dune' film to complete.

For those eager for more 007, 2026 will see the release of a new Bond game, '007: First Light,' from IO Interactive, the developer behind Hitman. The debut trailer is available below.
