Once Human sits pretty at 230,000 peak player count, but it\'s still a long way out from mobile

NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, has achieved a remarkable 230,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, securing a top 7 spot in sales and a top 5 position in most-played games. This initial success, however, is tempered by the possibility of a player decline. The game, slated for mobile release in September, has already announced upcoming updates including a PvP mode for the Mayflies and Rosetta factions, and a new PvE area in a northern mountain region.

A Cause for Concern?

The use of "peak" player count is significant. The average player count may be considerably lower, and a rapid drop-off from the peak could signal trouble, especially considering the game's initial Steam wishlist count fell short of 300,000.

While NetEase is a mobile gaming giant, its foray into the PC market with Once Human represents a significant shift. Despite the game's impressive visuals and gameplay, a swift transition to a primarily PC audience may prove challenging.
