Insomniac Games Looks For More Game-To-Screen Adaptations
Insomniac Games, the creative force behind the iconic Ratchet and Clank series, has expressed a keen interest in transforming more of their games into cinematic experiences. This revelation came from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider during a recent interview with Variety, following the announcement of the retirement of Insomniac's founder and long-time CEO, Ted Price.
"We had an early start with the Ratchet and Clank film a few years back, and it's something we're passionate about," Schneider remarked. "Our love for Ratchet and Clank makes this a particularly exciting prospect for us."
The 2016 Ratchet and Clank film, while receiving mixed reviews, marked an early venture into film adaptations for Insomniac. With their acquisition by Sony in 2019, Insomniac is now poised to leverage Sony's proven track record in adapting video games into successful films and TV series, notably highlighted by the critically acclaimed adaptation of The Last of Us.

As Insomniac Games sets its sights on further game-to-screen projects, Sony continues to demonstrate its prowess in this arena. The company has successfully brought several game titles to life on screen, including the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us TV series.
Sony's future lineup, announced at the CES 2025 press conference, includes a variety of exciting projects. The Last of Us Season 2 is slated to premiere on HBO in April 2025, and an Until Dawn live-action film is also set for the same month. Fans can look forward to the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series on Crunchyroll in 2027, while a Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film are in development, though specific release dates remain undisclosed.
Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price Retires After 30 Years
In conjunction with the discussions about future projects, Insomniac's founder and CEO, Ted Price, announced his retirement after a remarkable 30-year tenure. Price's leadership has been instrumental in the creation of beloved franchises such as "Spyro the Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Marvel’s Spider-Man."
Reflecting on his decision, Price stated, "I made this choice last year. After over three decades at the helm of Insomniac, it felt like the right moment to step back and allow others to lead our team into the future."
The reins of the company are now in the capable hands of three Insomniac veterans serving as co-Studio Heads: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang. Price expressed confidence in the transition, saying, "To sustain our success, we need leaders who understand our culture and processes deeply, and who have earned the trust of our team."
