The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is Launching in October, Starting at $1,099

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 was first revealed at CES 2025 alongside the AMD Z2 Extreme processor that will drive it. Now, Lenovo is officially releasing the device to the public in October 2025, although an exact launch date remains unconfirmed.

This next-generation handheld gaming PC will be offered in two distinct configurations: a base model powered by the standard AMD Z2 APU and a premium version equipped with the more robust Z2 Extreme chip, which also powers the Asus ROG Ally X. Lenovo has released detailed specifications for the high-end variant, pairing the Z2 Extreme with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Meanwhile, the entry-level model priced at $1,099 will feature the base Z2 APU paired with 16GB of RAM, matching the memory capacity of the original Legion Go.

The most significant upgrade this generation is undoubtedly the display. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 features a 1200p OLED screen. While this resolution is lower than that of its predecessor, the transition to an OLED panel should significantly enhance visual quality. Additionally, one major critique I had regarding the original Legion Go was its inability to smoothly handle a 1600p display; therefore, reducing the resolution to 1200p is likely to improve overall system performance and fluidity.

Budget-conscious buyers may experience some sticker shock, as the Legion Go 2 starts at $1,099 for the standard Z2 model. The Z2 Extreme version naturally commands a higher price, starting at $1,349. For those seeking maximum specifications, the top-tier configuration is priced at $1,479. To provide context, the first-generation Legion Go launched in October 2023 with a much lower price point of $699. Thanks to the advanced new chipset, these handhelds are expected to deliver substantial gains in gaming performance, but whether this justifies the increased cost will be determined once we have them in our lab for thorough testing.
