The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, bringing the classic JRPG duology to modern consoles and PC. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, the collection will feature updated graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack, and several quality-of-life improvements.
This remastered collection, initially announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam), with backward compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Physical copies will also be released in select North American and European stores.
The remaster includes several modern conveniences while retaining the charm of the originals. Players can enjoy widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes, but can also switch to a classic mode for a retro gaming experience reminiscent of the PS1 era. The collection boasts fully voiced dialogue in English and Japanese, along with newly added French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a combat speed-up option and an auto-battle feature with streamlined party management. These additions, now common in remasters of older JRPGs (like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster), aim to modernize the experience without sacrificing the core gameplay.
The success of the Lunar Remastered Collection remains to be seen, but the developers' previous success with the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook. This release continues the trend of beloved JRPGs receiving a second life on current-gen platforms.
