Exciting news for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans: a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man, is set to make a comeback in the upcoming Vision Quest series. Faran Tahir is reportedly reprising his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of the terrorist group that held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 blockbuster.
Raza hasn't been seen since those initial 30 minutes of Iron Man, but his return is reminiscent of other surprising comebacks, such as Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk appearing in Captain America: Brave New World. In Vision Quest, which follows the events of WandaVision and stars Paul Bettany as White Vision, Raza's presence could add a new layer to the storyline. While no release date has been announced yet, anticipation is already building.
Initially, Raza's group appeared as a generic terrorist organization, but subsequent MCU phases have enriched their backstory. In Phase 4, it was revealed that Raza's group was part of the Ten Rings, a connection that was further explored in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This retroactive inclusion suggests that Raza was a commander within the Ten Rings, operating in Afghanistan. With Shang-Chi leaving room for future developments, Raza's return in Vision Quest might bridge these narratives, offering fans a deeper dive into the MCU's expansive universe.
Much like Deadpool & Wolverine, which delved into the quirky remnants of the Fox Marvel universe, Vision Quest could be aiming to reintroduce and explore forgotten aspects of the official MCU. Adding to the intrigue, James Spader, who played Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, is also rumored to return, though details about his role in the series remain under wraps.
