Hot on the heels of announcing a further 26 cast members for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have teased that they're not done yet. Yesterday, Marvel revealed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday through an extensive livestream, confirming a long list of actors set to join Robert Downey Jr. in the superhero movie, along with the commencement of production.
Among the surprises, Channing Tatum will reprise his role as the X-Men fan-favorite Gambit. You can check out the entire Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.
However, some notable MCU stars are conspicuously absent from the list. For instance, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen. Similarly, Chris Evans, who was rumored to have agreed to appear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, is missing, despite later denying the report.
Other missing characters include the Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey. On the X-Men side, there’s no Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey. Superhero fans quickly expressed their disappointment over the absence of some of their favorites, but could there still be hope?
In an Instagram post following the reveal, Robert Downey Jr., who is set to play Doctor Doom after leading the MCU as Iron Man for many years, teased that there’s much more to come. "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent," RDJ said. "Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel then teased in the comments that "there's always room for more." Directors the Russo Brothers added: "It’s time…"
Clearly, Marvel isn’t done announcing the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The question remains, who else could be set to join in the carnage? Let us know in the comments.
Earlier this month, co-directors the Russo brothers stated they see Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning" that will lay the foundation for whatever comes next in Phase 7 of the MCU. "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories," Joe Russo said. "That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following about a year later in May 2027. Before these releases, Thunderbolts* is scheduled for May 2025, the TV show Ironheart is set for June, and Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely that one of these movies will be an X-Men film.
