Marvel's Newest Thunderbolts Team Includes Wolverine, Hulk, and Carnage

Author : Mila Update:Mar 18,2025

With the Thunderbolts making their live-action debut soon, Marvel Comics is unleashing ambitious plans for the team in the comics. The current Thunderbolts are heavily featured in the "One World Under Doom" crossover, but a brand-new team will emerge shortly after the film's release.

Marvel unveiled New Thunderbolts—a series written by Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and illustrated by Ton Lima (West Coast Avengers), with cover art by Stephen Segovia. See the striking cover for issue #1 below:

While clearly capitalizing on the film's hype—Bucky Barnes leads, and a mysterious asterisk graces the title—the team roster is drastically different. This iteration includes newcomers Clea, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Namor, Hulk, and Carnage (with Eddie Brock as the current Venom).

The series begins with Bucky and Black Widow confronting a universe-threatening crisis involving Illuminati doppelgangers. They assemble this powerful, yet volatile, team to tackle the threat. Leading such a diverse group of heroes and villains will be far from easy.

"I love every iteration of Thunderbolts," Humphries shared in Marvel's press release. "I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's tradition of intense action, explosive personalities, and surprising twists. This is a team of seven of the Marvel Universe's biggest badasses and loose cannons. Assembling a super team is like planning a dinner party—I envisioned a dangerous, chaotic, and unhinged Marvel dinner party, and ran with it."

Lima added, "I'm having a blast working on this with Mr. Humphries and the team. Look at this lineup… it's insane! They're not here for polite conversation; they jump straight into action, which is the most fun to draw. None of them are known for taking it easy, so neither can I!"

New Thunderbolts #1 releases June 11, 2025.
