Michael Douglas Unlikely to Reprise Hank Pym in Ant-Man

Author : Sophia Update:Dec 11,2025

Veteran actor Michael Douglas, who played Hank Pym in the Ant-Man films, has indicated that his time in the MCU is likely over after four appearances as the brilliant size-changing scientist.

Douglas has starred in all three Ant-Man movies released so far, including 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was met with a lukewarm reception. He also made a cameo in Avengers: Endgame.

With filming for Avengers: Doomsday getting underway, fans are asking if Hank Pym will return for one last mission. But according to Douglas, it's probably not happening.

"I don't think so," Douglas told Deadline when questioned about a potential return to the Marvel universe. "It was a great experience, and I was thrilled to be part of it."

Douglas has been mostly retired from acting in recent years, with his Marvel roles being his only major film credits. Meanwhile, he’s stayed active as a producer, with more than a dozen production credits to his name.

"I had never done a green-screen movie before," Douglas added, reflecting on his Marvel work. "But I'm really enjoying my break and spending time with family. Managing a production company while acting was quite demanding."

Douglas has previously mentioned that he wanted Hank Pym to be killed off in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, wrapping up his story while raising the stakes for Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. However, Marvel Studios decided against it.

Following Quantumania's underwhelming box office returns, the future of the Ant-Man franchise remains uncertain. Still, Paul Rudd is officially set to return in Avengers: Doomsday.

As for the rest of the Ant-Man team — Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne — it's best not to expect them back. In June 2024, Lilly announced she’s taking a step back from acting to focus on family, which makes a Wasp cameo in Avengers: Doomsday improbable.

So what can fans expect from Avengers: Doomsday? Earlier this week, footage that seemed to have leaked from the set hinted at the comeback of a surprising location last seen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
