MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus fails to meet expectations, it could mark the end of the game. AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, has reported that a reliable source indicated Season 5 is a critical effort to revive the game's fortunes. While this remains a rumor, the situation appears concerning.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed tremendous success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, prompting Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is set to begin in early February, presenting what may be the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. This relaunch follows the initial 2022 release, which the developers referred to as a "beta." Although the game was warmly received at first, the decision to temporarily shut it down in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed.
