Player First Games has announced the impending closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game, launched May 28, 2024, will conclude its online services on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement was made via a blog post on the studio's website.
Season 5, commencing February 4, 2025, will be the game's last hurrah. While online play will cease, Player First Games assures players that all acquired content (earned or purchased) will remain accessible offline through local and training modes.
The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support in a statement: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

In-game purchases are now disabled, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to unlock content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant financial writedown. In a November financial call, the company revealed MultiVersus' performance fell drastically short of expectations, contributing to a $100 million writedown, adding to the $300 million total after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This financial setback coincided with the recent departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
Despite the game's imminent closure, Season 5 promises a robust send-off. Alongside standard seasonal content, new playable characters, Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar rewards) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass), will debut next week.
