Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Compatibility with GameCube Controller, Warns of Potential Issues

Nintendo has recently addressed concerns about the compatibility of its newly unveiled GameCube controller with the Nintendo Switch 2. During the 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month, the company announced the controller's release, emphasizing that it is primarily designed for use with the Nintendo Switch Online retro library's GameCube games. However, Nintendo has now clarified that while the GameCube controller might work with other Switch 2 games, users could encounter "issues" due to the controller lacking "all the buttons and features" found in modern controllers.

In a statement provided to Nintendo Life, Nintendo reiterated that the GameCube controller is "designed for use with the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection of games and is an optional way to play those games." They emphasized that it is only compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 system and not the original Nintendo Switch. The company warned that because the controller does not include all the features of newer controllers, players might experience some limitations when attempting to use it with other games on the Switch 2.
