What can fans look forward to in this Nintendo Direct? Despite the buzz surrounding the upcoming Switch 2, the original Switch remains a powerhouse with sales reaching an astounding 150.86 million units. This vast audience ensures that Nintendo and third-party developers continue to support the console with new titles. Anticipated releases include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, both slated for a 2025 Switch release. Additionally, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to arrive on the Switch sometime this year. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong, initially announced for multiple platforms including the Switch, is also on the horizon.
Given that the Switch 2 is expected to be backward compatible, these games will likely be playable on both the original Switch and its successor. This week's Nintendo Direct could serve as a grand finale for the Switch, eight years after its launch, by unveiling the final wave of exclusive titles as Nintendo transitions to the Switch 2. Yet, knowing Nintendo's penchant for surprises, there might be a few unexpected announcements in store for fans.
