Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada

Author : Logan Update:Apr 14,2025

Gamers across North America were left reeling last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain future. The change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which sent financial markets into a tailspin, and the ripple effects have now crossed the border. Nintendo Canada has also announced a delay in pre-orders, dashing hopes of securing a console through relatives in Winnipeg or elsewhere in Canada.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, as we aim to synchronize with the revised pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a communication to the Canadian tech publication MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will share more details in the future. The planned launch date of June 5, 2025 remains firm."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as we evaluate the effects of tariffs and fluctuating market dynamics. Nintendo will provide an updated schedule soon. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged.

While the original pre-order date was set for tomorrow, there's still no indication of when eager fans can start their browser refresh marathon and prepare their credit card details, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and anxious about potential price hikes from the originally announced price of $449.99.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, where smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths have quickly sold out, prompting scalpers to list pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
