Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi

Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, not only offered a glimpse into the game's impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies but also confirmed the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist.

PlayThe trailer highlighted Musashi's exceptional swordsmanship, alongside a glimpse into his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the renowned Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his portrayals of Musashi in various samurai films.

The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. Marking the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025, to build anticipation for the upcoming sequel.
