Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This parallel has led fans to anticipate a similar announcement from Isaac.
Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, he initially expressed reluctance to reprise his role, suggesting a return only if financially necessary. However, by 2022, he had softened his stance, telling Variety he was "open to anything."
His past criticisms of Disney, particularly regarding the rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), have also added to the intrigue. Boyega himself has voiced past frustrations with Disney but has also indicated openness to future roles.
The speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has expressed her desire for Boyega's return, and the inclusion of Poe, completing the Sequel Trilogy's main trio, is considered a strong possibility.
However, definitive answers may remain elusive for some time. Disney's repeated delays of numerous announced Star Wars projects have pushed back the Rey film's earliest potential release date to December 17, 2027. While directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film's production timeline remains uncertain. Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, but fans will likely face a prolonged wait for concrete details.
