Palworld Switch Release Unlikely Due to Technical Challenges, Not Pokémon Competition

While a Nintendo Switch version of Palworld isn't entirely off the table, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe has voiced concerns regarding the technical hurdles involved in porting the game.

No Concrete Plans for Switch or Other Platforms

In a recent interview, Mizobe discussed the challenges of bringing Palworld to the Switch, hinting at future platform expansion. While discussions about "new platforms" are underway, Pocketpair currently has no announcements to make. The game's high PC specifications present a significant technical barrier for a Switch port, Mizobe acknowledged. He previously stated, "Palworld’s PC specs are higher than the Switch’s. So, a Switch port might be difficult for purely technical reasons."

The future availability of Palworld on PlayStation, other consoles, or mobile remains unconfirmed. Earlier this year, Mizobe confirmed discussions about expanding to more platforms, and while open to partnerships or acquisition offers, he stated that there have been no buyout talks with Microsoft.

Future Vision: More 'Ark' and 'Rust' Influences

Beyond platform considerations, Mizobe expressed a desire to enhance Palworld's multiplayer features. The upcoming arena mode, described as an "experiment," will lead to further multiplayer development. Mizobe stated his ambition to implement a true PvP mode, aiming for a gameplay experience similar to the popular survival games Ark and Rust, known for their challenging environments, deep resource management, and extensive player interaction, including alliances and tribes.

Successful Launch and Upcoming Update

Palworld, Pocketpair's creature-collecting and survival shooter, has proven remarkably successful since its release, selling 15 million copies on PC in its first month and attracting 10 million players on Xbox via Game Pass. A major update, including the free Sakurajima update on Thursday, will introduce a new island and the highly anticipated PvP arena.
