Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza Will Take Comedic Manliness to Another Level

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii promises to blend serious drama with the series' trademark comedic flair, as revealed by developer RGG Studio. Dive into the details of what this exciting new game will offer!

Featuring "Serious" Majima

But There’ll Still Be Goofing Off

The latest addition to the acclaimed Like a Dragon series is poised to stretch the limits of reality while delivering a "manly drama" storyline, according to RGG Studio's interview with Automaton Media.

While the series is renowned for its humor, with Majima often cited as one of its funniest characters, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama emphasized that this iteration of Majima will adopt a "more serious" demeanor, particularly in the game's opening chapters.

Ryosuke Horii, the producer of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, elaborated on Yokoyama's comments, highlighting the game's central "manly drama." This narrative focuses on Majima's determined pursuit of his objectives and the relationships he forges during his extraordinary journey. "The goofing off isn’t the main focus – at its heart, there's a manly drama. Of course, there are some wild detours, but overall, it's a straightforward tale about a passionate man," Horii explained.

Horii further noted that Majima possesses a unique quality that sets him apart from the series' long-standing protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. As translated by Automaton, "If we didn't capitalize on that, there would be no reason to have Majima as the main character. That’s why we pushed the boundaries of reality a bit more than we would with Kiryu, aiming to provide players with rich, varied action. ... Balancing the pirate elements, Majima's essence, and the 'Ryu ga Gotoku' spirit was challenging but crucial."

The game is designed to strike the perfect balance between realism and extravagance, ensuring that the gameplay remains engaging and dynamic, while still anchored by a serious and compelling drama.

Majima Maji Festival In Japan

Don't miss the chance to join the festivities if you're in those areas!

The latest entry in the Like a Dragon/Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, places the iconic "The Mad Dog of Shimano" Goro Majima at the forefront. With its thrilling combat system, engaging naval battles, vibrant characters, and a passionate storyline, the game is set to offer a unique modern-day pirate adventure.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on February 21st.
