Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Unveils Exciting Updates
Closed Beta Launch Date: March 13, 2025
Ubisoft has announced that the Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will commence on March 13, 2025, at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase, and will run until March 19, 2025, at the same times.
To participate in the Closed Beta, fans can watch the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or various Content Creators' livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, featuring the innovative Dual Front game mode.
However, some players have reported not receiving the expected access code email. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it.
It's worth noting that R6 Siege X is not a standalone game but a significant update enhancing the existing Siege experience with graphical and technical improvements.
Introducing Dual Front: A Dynamic 6v6 Game Mode
Ubisoft has unveiled Dual Front, a new 6v6 game mode set to revolutionize gameplay. This mode will introduce foundational upgrades to the core game, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more. It also features revamped player protection systems and will be free to access, allowing players to dive into Siege's tactical action at no cost.
Dual Front will take place on the new map, District, where two teams of six Operators will simultaneously attack and defend sectors. This unique setup allows for new gadget combinations and strategic tactics, marking a first for R6 with simultaneous attacking and defending roles.
While Dual Front brings fresh gameplay, the classic Siege mode will continue to be available, now labeled as "Core Siege." This mode includes updated versions of five maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, with enhanced textures and destructible materials. Initially, only these five maps will be modernized, with plans to update three more per season.
Free Access Begins in Season 2 of Year 10
After a decade, Rainbow Six Siege will become free-to-play starting in Season 2 of Year 10, aligning with trends set by its competitors. Initially launched as a paid game in 2015, Siege's shift to a free-to-play model aims to attract new players.
Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis emphasized the goal of introducing the game to new audiences during the R6 Siege X Showcase event in Atlanta on March 13. He noted, "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special." Karpazis added that this move reduces barriers to entry, enhancing the social aspect of the game.
Free access will include game modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. However, Ranked mode and Siege Cup will remain exclusive to those who purchase premium access. This strategy aims to maintain a competitive environment while welcoming new players, as explained by former Game Director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer.
No Plans for Siege 2
Despite reaching its 10-year milestone, Ubisoft has confirmed that there are no plans for a sequel, Rainbow Six Siege 2. Instead, the focus is on enhancing the current game, as explained by Karpazis. He stated, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark."
Siege X has been in development for three years, running parallel to the game's regular seasonal updates. Karpazis highlighted that Siege X is designed to ensure the game's longevity, saying, "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far."
The importance of the community to Siege's success was also emphasized, with Karpazis noting, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."
Rainbow Six Siege X is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news by checking out our dedicated Rainbow Six Siege article.
