In 2020, a fan of Batman: Arkham Knight with schizophrenia reached out to Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, via the Cameo service. The fan, deeply inspired by the game's narrative where Batman battles his fears, paranoia, and hallucinations, saw a reflection of his own struggles with the disease. He shared his story with Conroy, expecting a standard 30-second video message in return. Instead, he received over six minutes of heartfelt encouragement from Conroy, who was moved by the fan's story.
This extended video became a lifeline for the fan during some of his darkest moments. He shared on Reddit how hearing Batman express belief in him was incredibly powerful and how knowing that Conroy himself believed in him was equally impactful. Initially, the fan had no intention of sharing the video publicly, but upon learning that Conroy had a brother who also suffered from schizophrenia, he decided to post it, hoping it could offer solace and inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
He emphasized his willingness to remove the video if requested by Conroy's family, but expressed hope that it could help others, concluding with a message of resilience: "Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you."
Tragically, Kevin Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. Yet, his legacy and the profound impact of his words continue to resonate with millions worldwide.
