彭博社11月25日的一篇文章报道称，科技巨头索尼正在开发一款全新的便携式掌上游戏主机，玩家可以在旅途中畅玩PS5游戏。拥有掌机将有助于索尼拓展市场，并与任天堂和微软竞争——任天堂凭借Game Boy到Switch，长期占据掌机市场霸主地位；而微软也已表示计划进军掌机市场，并正在研发原型机。

据悉，这款掌机将基于去年发布的PlayStation Portal进行改进。PlayStation Portal允许用户通过互联网串流游玩PS5游戏，但市场反响褒贬不一。改进现有Portal技术，并打造能够原生运行PS5游戏的掌机，无疑将提升索尼产品的吸引力，并覆盖更广泛的受众，尤其是在今年PS5价格因通货膨胀上涨20%的背景下。

当然，这并非索尼首次进军掌机市场。其PlayStation Portable (PSP)和后续机型PS Vita都曾获得不错的市场反响。然而，即使获得好评，也未能撼动任天堂的霸主地位。任天堂始终保持领先，如今凭借Switch更是巩固了其地位。索尼的掌机最终让位于PlayStation主机——但如今形势有所改变，索尼再次试图在掌机市场占据一席之地。
