Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2: A DRM-Free Experience
No Microtransactions, Either
In a recent FAQ, Saber Interactive clarified several key aspects of the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Approaching its September 9th release, the developers have reiterated their commitment to a DRM-free experience; no Denuvo or similar software will be included.
While DRM is frequently used to combat piracy, its impact on game performance has been a source of controversy among gamers. Past instances, such as Capcom's use of Enigma DRM in Monster Hunter Rise (causing issues with Steam Deck compatibility and modding), highlight these concerns.
Although Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be DRM-free, Easy Anti-Cheat will be implemented on PC to address cheating. The use of Easy Anti-Cheat has faced scrutiny in the past, notably during a hacking incident at the ALGS 2024 tournament in March.
The absence of planned official mod support might disappoint some players. However, the game boasts compelling features, including PvP arena, horde mode, and a comprehensive photo mode. Furthermore, Saber Interactive emphasizes that all gameplay content will be accessible to all players, with microtransactions and DLC strictly limited to cosmetic items.
