Open Drive is more than just a mobile racing game; it's now available in early access on Android. This project comes from SpecialEffect, a charitable organization dedicated to helping players with physical disabilities enjoy video games, developed in partnership with Sun & Moon Studios.
What Is Open Drive About?
This game is designed to adapt to your preferred way of playing. Whether you use touch controls, a keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a controller, it’s built to be inclusive from the start.
Even players who depend on alternative input methods like eye-gaze technology can experience the open-world driving on mobile. One standout feature is the mobile-specific eye control. With a compatible eye-gaze camera, you steer simply by looking left or right.
This represents a major step forward in accessibility, especially for players with physical limitations who often can't use standard touch or gamepad inputs. The eye-control feature is available across all four of the game’s open worlds: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow.
Gameplay is highly flexible. You can relax and cruise around collecting orbs, or go for high scores and perform impressive jumps using vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. You can also adjust the speed to your liking. Check out the early access announcement trailers for Open Drive below.
Open Drive Arrives in Early Access
The game automatically detects your control method and adjusts settings on the fly. Android Switch Access is fully supported.
Each input type in Open Drive comes with its own configuration. For touch, there are 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, allowing you to steer by tapping or directing your car with simple gestures.
Similarly, distinct setups are provided for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads or controllers.
Open Drive is currently in early access on Android, though the eye-control feature is not yet fully implemented. The full version, set to launch later this summer, will be free to play. If you're interested, you can download it now from the Google Play Store.
