While Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch remain popular, the Meta Quest 3S unexpectedly claimed the top spot as Amazon's best-selling console of 2024. This is particularly noteworthy considering its October launch.

The Meta Quest 3S, a more affordable version of the Meta Quest 3, offers a compelling entry point into VR gaming. Despite VR's limited mainstream appeal, its price and game library propelled it to significant sales success on Amazon.

Amazon's 2024 best-seller list reveals the Meta Quest 3S as the top-selling console, ranking #11 overall among video games (mostly dominated by gift cards and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions). The PlayStation 5 Slim placed #17, and the Nintendo Switch at #53. Notably absent from the top 80 were Xbox consoles (though peripherals appeared), and the PlayStation 5 Pro. Only a Nintendo microSDXC card and the PlayStation DualSense controller ranked higher (#8 and #9 respectively).

Meta Quest 3S: Making VR More Accessible

Sony's PlayStation VR2, conversely, didn't feature on Amazon's list. While boasting a strong game library, the Meta Quest 3S's standalone nature—allowing free movement without tethering or requiring a powerful PC or console—likely enhanced its appeal.

Interestingly, the Meta Quest 2 also made the list (#27), while the original Meta Quest 3 did not (top 80). This suggests price sensitivity within the VR market. With the Meta Quest 2 discontinued and the Nintendo Switch 2's 2025 release, 2025's sales rankings will be fascinating. If Nintendo replicates the original Switch's success, it could dominate Amazon's video game sales. However, 2024's results strongly suggest a growing, albeit gradual, interest in virtual reality gaming.
