Verdansk Boosts Warzone, Developers Confirm Its Staying

Author : Thomas Update:Apr 22,2025

Verdansk has undeniably revitalized *Call of Duty: Warzone*, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. The online community had previously labeled Activision's battle royale, now in its fifth year, as "cooked." However, the nostalgia-driven return of Verdansk has flipped the script, and now the internet is buzzing that Warzone is "back." Yes, Activision did metaphorically "nuke" Verdansk, but it seems that this drastic move hasn't deterred fans. Both lapsed players who fondly remember Warzone as their lockdown game and those who have remained loyal throughout the game's evolution over the past five years agree: Warzone is more enjoyable now than it has been since its explosive debut in 2020.

This return to the fundamentals in gameplay was a strategic choice by developers Raven and Beenox. Pete Actipis, the game director at Raven, along with Etienne Pouliot, the creative director at Beenox, spearheaded the multi-studio effort to rejuvenate Warzone. In an extensive interview with IGN, the duo delved into the process of revitalizing the game, the triumph of Verdansk’s Casual mode, and whether they contemplated restricting operator skins to mil-sim to recapture the 2020 vibe. They also tackled the pivotal question on everyone's mind: is Verdansk here to stay?

Read on to discover the insights and future plans for *Call of Duty: Warzone*.
